Real Beach Walks from Barcelona and the Catalan Coast

Whether you are planning a trip to Barcelona, curious about Spanish beach culture, or simply want to escape for a while without leaving home, Bear Beach Walks is here to give you a real feel for the coast.

Not the polished brochure version. Not the carefully cropped postcard version. Not a highlights reel where every beach is described as “stunning,” “unmissable,” and “perfect for everyone,” because let’s be honest, not every beach is perfect for everyone.

What we try to offer is something more honest.

A slow walk. A real beach. The sound of the sea. The busy parts, the quiet parts, the beautiful bits, the ordinary bits, and the atmosphere that tells you far more than a glossy travel guide ever could.
This is the Spanish coast as we find it.

Not highlights. Real atmosphere.

Why the beach keeps pulling me back

Why the beach keeps pulling me back

I have always found beaches calming.

There is something about sitting on warm sand, listening to the rhythm of the waves, and watching the sea breathe in and out that settles the mind in a way very few places can. Add a swim on a hot summer day, floating on your back while the Mediterranean gently lifts and drops you, and it is hard to think of many better places to be.

That feeling is a big part of why Bear Beach Walks exists.

The name came from a simple image that stuck with me: even an angry bear would probably calm down after sitting by the sea for a while. A few waves, a little sunshine, sand between the toes, and even the grumpiest old bear might wander away feeling better about the world.

So Bear Beach Walks made sense.

It still does.

A coastline made for wandering

I have lived in the Barcelona area for more than eight years, and for most of that time I have been within walking distance, or a short metro ride, of the beaches of Barcelona and Badalona.
That has changed the way I experience the sea.

In some places, a beach day is something you plan carefully. You load the car, pack the cooler, bring the chairs, find parking, set up camp, and make a day of it.
Around Barcelona, the beach is much more woven into everyday life.

You can walk there. Take the metro. Jump on a train. Drift down from the city. Spend half an hour watching the water before going home. Sometimes I would go out exploring the streets, neighbourhoods, and corners of Barcelona with no particular intention of ending up by the sea, and somehow I usually did. It was as if the coast had its own quiet gravity.
A left turn here. A different street there. A glimpse of light at the end of an avenue.

And there it was again: the beach.

The public transport system also opens up a huge stretch of the Catalan coast. From the beaches around Barcelona and Badalona to coastal towns further north and south, you can explore a remarkable variety of places with little more than a ticket, your walking shoes, and maybe your swimming gear.

Or not, depending on the beach.

This coastline has been more than enough to keep me busy for years, and I still feel like I am only partway through it.

What Bear Beach Walks is trying to show

Over the years, we have travelled up and down the Catalan coast filming beaches, promenades, coves, town beaches, city beaches, naturist-friendly beaches, busy summer stretches, and quieter places where the sea feels like it belongs mostly to the people who know how to find it.

We have built up a large archive of footage, and we are still working through older videos while continuing to film new walks.

The aim is simple:
To give you the closest feeling we can to actually being there.

Not every beach is shown from its “best angle.” That is not the point.

A beach is not just scenery. It is movement, sound, people, layout, space, mood, access, weather, culture, and timing. A single photo can show you the water. A full walk can show you how a place feels.

That is what we care about.
When you watch one of our videos, we want you to understand the pulse of the beach. Is it calm? Crowded? Local? Tourist-heavy? Open and spacious? Packed and lively? Easy to walk? Better for swimming? Better for people-watching? Better for a quick visit than a full day?

Those are the things that matter when you are deciding where to go.

And they are also the things that make a beach walk enjoyable even if you have no plan to visit at all.

4K beach walks: a guided walk through the scene

Most of our standard videos are filmed in 4K in a traditional widescreen format.

These are directed walks, but not heavily staged or over-edited. I walk the beach naturally and let the route develop around the space, the people, and the character of the place.

On a busy beach, that can mean weaving carefully through dense patches of towels, umbrellas, families, swimmers, and sunbathers. On a quieter beach, it may mean taking a slower line along the edge of the water, where the Mediterranean washes over the sand and cools your feet as you walk.

Some beaches are short and may take only fifteen minutes to walk properly. Others, like Castelldefels, can stretch on for much longer. We do not set out to fill a memory card. We set out to give you a realistic sense of the beach.

A proper memory of the place.

Or at least the closest thing to one without actually being there.

360 beach walks: choose where you look

Alongside the 4K videos, we also film immersive 360-degree beach walks.

These give the viewer much more control. Instead of relying entirely on where I point the camera, you can look around for yourself. With a mouse, phone, tablet, or VR headset, you can turn toward the sea, the promenade, the people, the buildings, the sand, or whatever catches your attention.
That freedom comes with a trade-off.

Even when filmed in high resolution, 360 video spreads those pixels across the full sphere around the camera. So the image can feel less sharp than a directed 4K video. But what it gives you in return is flexibility and presence.

You are not just watching the walk.
You are almost standing inside it.

For some viewers, especially those curious about the full atmosphere of a beach, that extra control is worth the technical compromise.

Real beaches, not brochure beaches

Many travel guides want to give you the glossy version of every place.

The golden sand. The perfect sky. The cleanest frame. The empty stretch of beach that somehow never looks that empty when you actually arrive.

There is nothing wrong with beautiful travel photography. I love a good image as much as anyone. But it does not always help you understand a place.

Bear Beach Walks is different.
We show the beach as it was when we filmed it. If it was busy, you will see that. If the sand was crowded, you will see that. If the promenade was lively, if vendors were walking the beach, if music was drifting from different groups, if the sea was calm, if the beach felt relaxed, if it felt chaotic, if it felt local, if it felt tourist-heavy, we want that to come through.

Because that is the useful part.
If you are planning a trip, you do not just need to know whether a beach can look beautiful in a photo. You need to know whether it feels like the kind of beach you actually want to visit.
And if you are watching from home, the honest version is often more interesting anyway.
Perfect gets boring quickly.

Real has texture.

Topless and naturist beach culture

Many beaches along the Catalan coast include topless sunbathing, and some have naturist-friendly areas.

When this appears in our videos, we treat it as part of normal beach life here. Not something shocking. Not something sensational. Not something to be exaggerated or hidden away as if it does not exist.

It is simply part of the culture on many Spanish beaches.
The important thing is respect.

These are public beaches with real people enjoying their day. Our goal is to document the beach honestly while keeping the tone natural, respectful, and grounded. Topless sunbathing and naturism are not presented as a spectacle. They are part of the wider atmosphere of the coast.
That distinction matters.

Spanish beach culture can be more relaxed than visitors from some countries expect, but once you spend time here, you realise how ordinary it usually feels. People are swimming, sunbathing, talking, reading, walking, sleeping, looking after children, drinking coffee, eating snacks, and doing all the normal things people do at the beach.

  • That is the story.
  • Not shock value.
  • Just real beach life.

For travellers planning a trip

If you are planning to visit Barcelona, Badalona, Sitges, Castelldefels, Gavà, Montgat, or anywhere else along this part of the coast, our videos and guides are designed to help you make better choices.

Because not every beach suits every person.

A beach that is perfect for one visitor may be completely wrong for another. Some people want space and quiet. Others want bars, music, movement, and people-watching. Some want easy public transport. Others are happy to travel further for a quieter cove. Some want a family-friendly beach with services nearby. Others want somewhere more relaxed, open-minded, or naturist-friendly.
A glossy brochure will usually tell you everything is wonderful.

We would rather help you work out what is right for you.

Maybe you will watch one of our videos and realise a famous beach is exactly where you want to be. Maybe you will decide to skip the obvious choice and go somewhere quieter. Maybe you will discover that Badalona, Castelldefels, or a beach further along the train line is a better fit for the kind of day you actually want.

  • That is the goal.
  • Not to tell you what to think.
  • To let you see enough to decide for yourself.

For people travelling from home

Of course, not everyone watching Bear Beach Walks is planning a trip.

Some people are simply curious about Spain. Some want to compare these beaches with the beaches they know at home. Some have visited before and want to revisit the feeling. Some may never come here but still enjoy the sound, movement, and atmosphere of the coast.

That matters too.

Travel does not always have to involve airports, luggage, queues, and the mysterious ability of airlines to turn legroom into a philosophical problem.

Sometimes travel is slower than that.

Sometimes it is sitting at home with a coffee, putting on a beach walk, and letting yourself drift along the Mediterranean for half an hour.

You may be watching from a cold city, a rainy afternoon, a quiet room, or a place far from the sea. But for a little while, you can walk the sand, hear the waves, see the people, and feel the rhythm of a place you are not physically standing in.

  • That is part of the magic of these videos.
  • They are useful for planning.
  • But they are also a way to travel while at home.

What we hope you take from this

When you watch one of our beach walks, I hope you come away with a sense of the place.
Not just whether it is pretty.

I hope you can feel whether it is busy or calm, whether it feels local or touristy, whether it has space, whether it has energy, whether it might suit you, whether it makes you curious, and whether you can imagine yourself walking there.

I would love to hear from someone who never planned to visit Barcelona but decided to come because one of our videos inspired them.

I would love to hear from someone who used the videos to plan their trip, picked the beaches that felt right for them, visited those places, and then came back to tell us how the real experience compared with the walk they watched online.

That would mean we had done the job properly.

We all have limited time to travel. If these videos help you spend more of that time on beaches that suit you, that is a win.

And if you cannot visit, but the videos give you a real sense of what it feels like to walk the Catalan coast, that is a win too.

Bear Beach Walks FAQs

Bear Beach Walks frequently asked Questions

What is Bear Beach Walks?

Bear Beach Walks is a documentary-style beach walk project focused on the beaches of Barcelona, Badalona, Sitges, Castelldefels, Gavà, Montgat, and the wider Catalan coast.

The goal is to show the beaches as they really feel, not as polished travel-brochure highlights. The videos are designed to help viewers understand the real atmosphere of each beach, whether they are planning a trip or simply enjoying a Spanish beach walk from home.

Can I enjoy Bear Beach Walks even if I am not planning a trip to Spain?

Yes. Many viewers enjoy Bear Beach Walks simply as a way to relax, explore, and experience the Spanish coast from home.

The videos are useful for travel planning, but they are also made for people who love beach walks, Mediterranean scenery, slow travel, coastal culture, or calming real-world atmosphere. You can watch from home and still get a genuine sense of the beach, the sea, the people, and the rhythm of the place.

How are Bear Beach Walks different from normal travel videos?

Most travel videos show highlights: the best angle, the cleanest shot, the prettiest moment, and the most polished version of a place.

Bear Beach Walks takes a different approach. The videos show full beach walks with the busy parts, quiet parts, beautiful views, ordinary details, and real atmosphere included. The idea is not to make every beach look perfect. The idea is to help you understand what the beach actually feels like.

Not highlights. Real atmosphere.

What areas does Bear Beach Walks cover?

Bear Beach Walks focuses mainly on Barcelona and the Catalan coast, including beaches in and around:

  • Barcelona
  • Badalona
  • Sitges
  • Castelldefels
  • Gavà
  • Montgat
  • Other beaches and coastal towns along the wider Catalan coast

The project continues to grow as new beaches are filmed and older archive footage is edited and published.

What is the difference between 4K beach walks and 360 beach walks?

The 4K beach walks give you a clear, directed view of the beach. These videos follow a natural walking route and are usually sharper and easier to watch on most screens.

The 360 beach walks give you more control. You can look around the scene yourself using a mouse, phone, tablet, or VR headset. The image may feel less sharp than standard 4K because the resolution is spread around the full 360-degree view, but the experience is more immersive.

In simple terms, 4K gives you the guided walk. 360 lets you choose where to look.

Are the videos useful for planning a trip to Barcelona or the Catalan coast?

Yes. The videos and guides are designed to help you choose beaches that suit the kind of day you actually want.

A photo or short travel clip can make almost any beach look good. A full beach walk gives you more useful detail: how busy the beach is, what the promenade feels like, how much space there is, whether the atmosphere feels relaxed or lively, and whether the beach seems right for you.

This can help you decide which beaches to visit, which ones to skip, and where to spend your limited travel time.

Do the videos show topless or naturist beach culture?

Some videos may include topless sunbathing or naturist beach areas because these are part of normal beach life on many Spanish and Catalan beaches.

Bear Beach Walks treats this respectfully and naturally. The aim is not to sensationalise or focus on it, but to document the real atmosphere of the beach as it is. Spanish beach culture can be more relaxed than visitors from some countries expect, and the videos reflect that in context.

Are Bear Beach Walks suitable for people interested in Spanish beach culture?

Yes. The videos are especially useful for people who want to understand the real feel of Spanish beach culture: how people use the beach, how busy it gets, how relaxed the atmosphere is, how public transport connects the coast, and how different beaches suit different moods.

The project is not just about scenery. It is about the everyday rhythm of the coast.

Why should I watch a full beach walk instead of a short beach clip?

A short clip can show you a pretty view. A full beach walk shows you the place.

You see the layout, the crowd, the walkability, the sound, the atmosphere, the quieter sections, the busy sections, and the real flow of the beach. That makes full beach walks useful for trip planning, but also more relaxing and immersive for viewers watching from home.

How can I support Bear Beach Walks?

You can support Bear Beach Walks by watching the videos, reading the guides, leaving comments, sharing the content, and becoming a member if you want access to more walks and help support future filming.

Membership helps the project continue filming, editing, publishing, and building a useful archive of honest beach walks and guides from Barcelona and the Catalan coast.
